The Phil Hancey Squash Fund

The Phil Hancey Squash Fund supports both talented young players and the wider community, with two funding opportunities available.

About The Phil Hancey Squash Fund

Phil Hancey sadly passed away in January 2022 following his battle with cardio angiosarcoma. He was an avid squash player and wanted to leave a legacy to support other people who share his passion. In particular, Phil wanted to help aspiring young players and people who may need a little help to start or keep playing the game.

The Phil Hancey Talent Fund

Phil's fund will support players in the U15 and U17 age groups, playing to a high standard within England Squash's talent pathway and part of the England Potential squads. Applicants to the Phil Hancey Talent Fund can apply for up to £500 to fund a specific activity or item that will help them develop as a squash player. For example, the fund could be used to support competition entries for specific squash events, international travel for additional competitions, additional coaching, strength and conditioning support, and additional equipment, etc.

Applications will be reviewed twice a year, in Autumn and Spring.

The Phil Hancey Community Fund

The Phil Hancey Community Fund will help people overcome some of the potential barriers to starting a new activity by providing grants to both community clubs and individuals:

  • Clubs: Any England Squash affiliated facility can apply for a grant of up to £500 to help deliver squash activities aimed at engaging new players.
  • Individuals: New or existing players, at any level of the game, can apply for a grant of up to £100 to support them to start, or carry-on playing squash. The grant should be used for specific items or activities that help the applicant overcome some of the potential barriers to playing squash.

Funding window

Whilst you can apply for funding at any time of year, the panel will review applications on a quarterly basis on the following dates in 2024:

  • Tuesday 12 March
  • Tuesday 11 June
  • Tuesday 10 September
  • Tuesday 10 December
