Love to Pedal is an adapted cycling opportunity that allows people to enjoy moving at home using pedal exercisers and a choice of ten to thirty minute bike rides that have been filmed across Somerset to bring it to life! Many care homes also use the love to pedal scheme with residents and get really creative with challenges and activities. One care home in Taunton have taken it to a new level, by using the pedals to complete in a cycle challenge through October.
The Road Worlds for Seniors cycling challenge has been a great success thanks to 26 of the residents of the Dunkirk Memorial House, Taunton taking part so far.
"We have used the pedal exercisers you kindly gifted as hand and foot pedals for our residents."
"Overall feedback has been really good with residents enjoying using the bikes for exercise and enjoying watching the scenery. The Road Worlds challenge is every October but we will continue to use the bikes throughout the year as part of therapy and wellbeing in our home."
"We have two couples living here and both have been able to have a go at cycling side by side. we tried the local Somerset videos on the SASP website which residents have enjoyed and which also promote conversation and interest amongst staff and residents who prefer to watch and not take part in cycling."
The image is of Ruth, who is the resident cyclist and she is currently the leading female in the challenge! Ruth has been cycling several hours a day using an exercise bike but was happy to try out the pedal exerciser and SASP videos gifted to them.
Pedals are available for loan from our offices in Wellington. To express an interest, please contact SASP either on (01823) 653990 or by emailing healthenquiries@sasp.co.uk
