Work Experience Opportunities

Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership (SASP) are keen to support work experience placements but can only accommodate a limited number per year. Placements are not guaranteed and can only be offered if staffing capacity allows it and if we are able to provide a proactive and engaging placement.

We are able to take students in Secondary, Further, and Higher Education. If you are no longer in education but are interested in a work experience placement then please contact the Workforce Manager directly.

Before you apply we encourage you to take a good look at our website to get an idea of what we do and whether it interests you.

Work experience is important for getting into any career. Having some can make you stand out from the crowd on applications for courses, training and jobs. Choosing what to do might seem easier if you know what you want to be in the future. You can look for opportunities that will help you to develop skills for that career.

If you do not know what job you want, or you can not get your perfect placement, remember any work experience is better than none. Whatever job you try, you'll learn more about yourself and working life. You'll also gain skills in the process. It might even lead to other, more suitable experience with the same organisation, or be good preparation for another opportunity that's closer to what you really want to do.

The application window is open from September to October 2024 for placements taking place March to July 2025. Applications will then be reviewed in the first two weeks in November with a possible phone call or informal chat with the student if more information is needed. Successful and unsuccessful applications will be notified before the end of November to ensure other placements can be secured if needed. The application window used to be open from September to December but we found that this was too late for students to find other placements if needed.

If your work experience dates fall out of the March - July window please contact the Workforce Manager directly. Please note that you will need to transport yourself to and from the placement, our head office is in Wellington, Somerset but we work throughout the county. For more information please call us on 01823 653990.
